Settler Conciliation
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation commemorates the tragic legacy of residential schools in Canada, and creates a chance for Canadians to learn about a dark chapter in our country’s history while reflecting on the survivors, their families, and their communities. On September 29, in honour of this day, Dr. David MacDonald presented on the topic: “TRC Seven Years Later: Settlers and Conciliation with Indigenous Peoples.” His book The Sleeping Giant Awakens offers a unique and timely perspective on the prospects for conciliation. Alderville First Nation Chief Dave Mowat co-chaired this event.
